Eagle Bond 2026

Building the Future of Joplin Schools: Eagle Bond 2026

How does Eagle Bond 2026 help Stapleton Elementary?

Stapleton families, A man in shirt and tie smiles gently at the camera.

Stapleton Elementary has been serving our community from this location since 1964, growing thoughtfully over the decades with additions in 1985 and 2008, and our community safe room in 2014. We're proud of that history, and proud that previous generations have been able to build onto what we have rather than start over. This approach honors our past while creating space for our future, and the April 7th bond issue continues that legacy without raising tax rates.

Our building tells the story of a community that invests in its children, and now it's time for the next chapter. The work proposed in this bond will move our main entrance to the north side for better security and flow, and adding 6,500 square feet to house a dedicated special education suite and expanded four-year-old classrooms. Every child deserves spaces designed to fit their learning. Inside, work would be done to renovate our library, art room, and lab to modern standards. Our nurse's office would be upgraded, the kitchen would be expanded, and the stage would be removed to create a cafeteria where all of our students can eat comfortably together. New windows, fresh finishes in classrooms and corridors, and an enclosed kitchen cooler round out the interior work.

The exterior improvements solve real challenges our families face every day. Anyone who's navigated our current drop-off knows the stress of crossing traffic with little ones in tow. The new two-lane entry drive from Pennsylvania Avenue will safely accommodate 70-80 stacked vehicles, while our existing drop-off lane transitions to buses and special education transportation. A welcoming entrance canopy and new play fields complete the picture. Our incredible teachers and staff do amazing work for our students every single day, and our families and community partners show up with tremendous support and care.

Stapleton is one of seven older elementary schools across the district receiving these thoughtful updates thanks to recommendations from the Long Range Planning Committee, ensuring that no matter where our students live, they can come to school in a building that is fit for their needs.

Thank you for supporiting our elementary schools!
